EPA plans to
award up to $19 million in grants to help clean up and restore the
nation's waterways. To submit a grant proposal in Arkansas, the
application package must be submitted to the Arkansas Department
of Environmental Quality by November 1,
2006 for project-implementation grants. The Arkansas
deadline is necessary to give the governor's office time to review
the grant proposals, write the required letters of support, and
submit them to Region 6 USEPA by EPA's deadline of
November 15, 2006.
State governors
and tribal leaders nominate potential recipients for implementation
grants. EPA will evaluate and rank submissions based on criteria
outlined in each notice. Watershed organizations receive the awards
based on how likely they are to achieve environmental results in
a relatively short time. Selection of the grantees will be announced
in the fall.

Program:
In addition
to supporting on-the-ground watershed projects through TWG implementation
grants, the TWG program also supports the development and dissemination
of tools, training, and technical assistance to strengthen the effectiveness
of community-based partnerships working across the country to achieve
clean water goals. In 2006, EPA will award $3.2 million in capacity
building grants to up to seven leading training organizations to
help local watershed groups develop critical skills necessary to
improve watershed health. EPA invites organizations that have expertise
in watershed training and local capacity building to submit proposals
by October 16, 2006.
